More and more drivers are considering electric vehicles, such as the upcoming 2026 Toyota C-HR EV, for their next new vehicle. Naturally, that can come with some questions, due to their unfamiliarity. Hall Toyota Elizabeth City shares how simple it is to charge an EV, right from the comfort of your home.

Types of Charging

Electric vehicle (EV) owners can choose to either charge their vehicle at home or at a public charging station. Level 1 charging is done at home, or with the proper equipment, you can complete faster Level 2 charging. Many public charging stations feature Level 2 charging or the conveniently fast Level 3 charging, which is also known as DC fast charging.

Level 1 Charging

Level 1 charging is 120-Volt charging and is ideal for short commutes or drivers who don’t drive too often. With Level 1 charging, you can typically add about four miles of range per hour. This charging can be done by simply plugging your EV’s charging cable into a common household three-prong outlet.

Level 2 Charging

With Level 2 charging, you can add about 20 miles of range per hour, which equates to about nine and a half hours of charging to charge your battery fully. Level 2 charging is offered at most public charging stations. You can also have a Level 2 charging station installed by a licensed electrician at your home, such as our partners ChargePoint® and Qmerit®, allowing you to charge conveniently while you sleep.
